The Plans
External & Internal
The plan for Independence:
a meld of old and new.
The basis of the design is the plan of a period 45ft schooner from Parker Marine, USA.
Parts of the Parker design were altered by our marine architect Howard Peachey to more accurately reflect the drawings by South Australian marine historian Robert (Bob) Sexton (pictured above, also framed and displayed at the Boathouse) and to conform with modern requirements for survey by the Australia Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
The rigging and sail plan will closely follow the Sexton design which is that of a gaff rigged topsail schooner. The interior layout will have a modern galley, dining and navigation towards the stern and a more tradition basic cabin area forward. The preliminary drawings below represent a plan of the interior provided by Howard Peachey.
